There is nothing more frustrating than stepping into your car after a long work day and realizing that the key fob battery is dead. Fortunately, this is an easy fix with the simple replacement of a battery at a hardware store or big box retailer.
A spare key fob for your Mazda 3 is an inexpensive method to avoid having to take it to a dealer to have them reprogram the keys.
Battery Replacement
You can replace the battery on your mazda cx 5 replacement key 3 keyfob at home. However, you should replace the battery if it is dead, or if the key fob displays a message on the multi-information display, “Low key fob battery. Replace battery.”
You’ll need a flathead screwdriver with tape and patience to open the case. Insert the head of the flathead screwdriver in a notch or gap in the bottom part of the Mazda 3 key fob to take off the lower portion. Repeat this process for the top part of the metal Be careful not to scratch the rubber ring on the bottom of the key fob’s case.
You’ll find a slot on each side of the fob case that houses the battery. Start on the other side of the case and gently open it. After replacing the battery Lock and unlock your doors to confirm whether the fob works. If everything appears to be working you’re good to go. Mazda 3 remote features can be used again.
Pairing Issues
If your key fob stops suddenly it could mean that the transmitter in the car is damaged. It is usually a job for a professional, and you will need a new key fob.
If you’ve attempted to replace the battery and reprogram the key fob but it’s not working, the chip inside the key fob might be defective. This could be the case if the keyfob has been dropped, exposed to saltwater, or was touched by dirty fingers.
To determine the cause of the issue, you will need to locate a small “key” built into the seam of the fob that lets you take it apart and take out the circuit board. Then, you can examine the electronic chip for damage or corrosion. To avoid damaging the microchip, it is recommended to use a clean paper towel.
If you’re not sure then you should also examine the battery connector’s terminals for cracks or breakage. If this is the case, carefully attaching them back will usually restore the function of the key fob. Similarly, you can inspect the buttons to determine whether they’ve been worn out or damaged. If the buttons are loose, they can easily be re-soldered as well unless a button has physically snapped off.
Interference Signals
Few things are more annoying than staring at a “No Fob Detected” message when you attempt to start your vehicle. It can happen at the most unfavorable situations, like the time you’re late to work or you’re trying to collect your children from school or daycare. The good thing is that there are steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue and figure out the cause.
Interference signals can interfere with the remote key fob signal from the vehicle which causes it to not work correctly. This can be caused by objects such as weather conditions, buildings and transmitters operating on the same frequency. Interference could also occur if you have aftermarket equipment installed in your vehicle that transmits on the same frequency as the key fob.
The key fob might be damaged if exposed to salt water or water. The water can penetrate the rubber seals of the electronic chip, especially when the key fob has been submerged in water for an extended period of time. The chip could stop working and may require replacement of the keyfob. If you own a programmable key you can clean the chip with isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner to help it come back to normal. If this does not work the chip, it is likely to be fried and will require to be replaced.
Locking/Unlocking of the Doors
The key fob’s buttons send electronic signals to a solenoid within the car. It then converts that signal into a mechanical action that locks and unlocks the doors. If the door lock isn’t working, the problem could be due to a solenoid problem that requires some investigation with the help of an expert repair shop for autos.
A dead 12V battery can also stop the fob from functioning effectively. This could happen if the battery fails to charge or if your contacts become corroded. The good news is that a new battery is able to resolve this issue in a matter of minutes.
If the key fob isn’t functioning after you have changed the battery or reprogram it then the problem may be related to the receiver module. The device interprets radio frequency signals sent by the key fob to control the vehicle. If it malfunctions it could be costly to repair.
To check if this is the case, start by inserting your spare keys into the key slot and setting the ignition to ON. Press the key fob button two times in a matter of 10 seconds without removing it. The Mazda 3 system synchronizes the key with the vehicle, so you can use it as your primary driving remote. This allows you to program up three keys.
