There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication that helps to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and a growing global demand.
Our service can provide private ADHD testing as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of a single prescription.
Titration
A highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This includes a complete medical history, and an assessment using the standard ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.
After your examination, you will be informed whether medication is appropriate for your particular situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or over the phone). Your doctor will explain the various options for medication and, if you choose to start on medication we will offer to titrate the dose to maximize the balance of benefits and side effects for you.
This process can take several weeks and it involves gradually altering your child’s medication until the appropriate balance has been achieved. It is not uncommon to have to adjust up to three different medications before you find the one that is most suitable for your child’s ADHD. It is essential that parents are involved in the titration and be on the lookout for their child’s behavior, so they can inform doctors whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.
If you do not decide to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with a private prescription which you’ll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You must attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication – this includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual checks are also required.
Follow-up appointments
After the assessment is complete, you can schedule follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. Usually the appointment will take place on zoom video call but in certain circumstances it may be possible to schedule an audio-only consultation (again at an extra cost).
We will then discuss treatment options and choose the most appropriate, customized ADHD medication titration. This will include a review of your medication dose and a discussion of any possible side effects you might be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 by video or phone consultation. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.
The psychiatrist will ask questions about your family history, the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your life, and any mental health issues you might be suffering from. ADHD is a genetic condition, and it’s vital to examine your family background to determine if you are at chance of developing this disorder.

We recommend that if you are unsure of your preferences, talk to your GP prior to scheduling your private appointment. Some providers have different policies regarding whether or not they require a GP letter. We also suggest that you check whether your GP accepts a “Shared Care Agreement which means that once you are discharged from the clinic you will be referred back to them for the prescription for medication.
Medication
Medication is a key part of the journey for many people who are looking for an official ADHD diagnosis. It can be difficult to get an appointment with a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be notoriously long, and GPs might be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.
