The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) is considering the name Anies Baswedan to be nominated in the 2024 Jakarta regional elections (Pilkada).

Furthermore, Syaikhu believes that the Anies-Sohibul pair is a good duo. According to Syaikhu, the two complement each other for the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada. “Some people have already coined the acronym AMAN (Anies-Sohibul Iman), but whatever the name, (Anies-Sohibul Iman) has the qualifications, compatibility, and complementary qualities needed to lead DKI Jakarta,” said Syaikhu.

PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto commented on the speculation about a duet between Anies Baswedan and Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, also known as Ahok, as governor and deputy governor candidates in the Jakarta Pilkada. Hasto stated that his party embraces the nation’s best talents.

He stated that the consideration regarding the Anies-Sohibul Iman duo was based on suggestions from the PKS Jakarta Regional Leadership Council (DPW) submitted to the PKS Central Executive Board (DPP). The DPP PKS also listened to suggestions from clerics, habaib, interfaith leaders, religious leaders, intellectuals, and the people of DKI Jakarta. “We are looking at the reality of the situation, how the suggestions from the DPW and inputs from various parties are also taken into account,” he said.

Previously, PDIP DPP Chairman Said Abdullah admitted that he had visited Cak Imin’s residence to discuss cooperation in the Jakarta Pilkada. Said mentioned that PKB is already set on nominating Anies Baswedan for the Jakarta gubernatorial election. “We went to the PKB Chairman’s house, I remember it was after Friday prayers on May 30 before departing for Mecca. We had a heart-to-heart talk, as communication is definitely built among the elites, sharing views and perspectives,” said Said.

“Whether through the civil service, retired military and police, socio-cultural groups, professional groups such as doctors, cultural figures, engineers, agricultural experts, and all other professionals can join PDIP,” said Hasto.

Previously, PDIP DPP Chairman Eriko Sotarduga said that if his party cooperates with PKB to nominate Anies Baswedan in the Jakarta Pilkada, his party would offer the gubernatorial seat in East Java to PDIP. “For example, if in Jakarta PKB becomes the gubernatorial candidate. Is it okay if in East Java PDIP becomes the gubernatorial candidate? PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu explained the reason his party decided not to nominate PKS Syuro Council Chairman Sohibul Iman as the prospective gubernatorial candidate for Jakarta in the 2024 Pilkada. Instead, Sohibul was decided to run as the prospective vice-gubernatorial candidate for Jakarta. The position of the prospective gubernatorial candidate was given to Anies Baswedan, who is the former Governor of DKI Jakarta for the 2017-2022 period. “I think PKS is also realistic about the nominations in DKI, and this is the best composition,” said Syaikhu at the Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (25/6/2024).

“The PKS DPP, in a meeting on Thursday, June 20, 2024, has decided to nominate Mr. Anies Rasyid Baswedan as the gubernatorial candidate and Mr. Sohibul Iman as the vice-gubernatorial candidate,” said Syaikhu.

According to Syaikhu, PKS indeed needs to form a coalition with other political parties to support Anies-Sohibul Iman in the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada. “We will invite various other parties to support this pair,” he said. However, Syaikhu admitted that there has been no communication with PDIP leadership regarding the Jakarta Pilkada so far. “Officially, I haven’t (communicated with PDIP),” he said.
